Studying Language Abroad: Truly Valuable Experience
Studying a language abroad can be an amazing and affordable experience. But for those who think that such undertaking is expensive, they ought to know that there are a number of scholarships and grants available for students who are considering going abroad to study. The Globalization Grant for example, gives nearly $100,000 as grant money per year, depending on the school that is in collaboration with the said program, and the money will be intended for student aids including airfare. Several students receive awards amounting to $10,000 to help finance their language study abroad program. Students can pick a program as long as one year or as short as a few weeks. The shortest programs that last only around three weeks are often merely study tours led by the collaborating school. There are a lot of similar opportunities offered during the summer period, while others for an entire academic year. Because of this many students were able to study abroad a number of times. However, advisers suggest that first-timers and freshmen will be better off if they wait until at least they have completed their freshmen year or have the few quarters of basic language courses and academic courses below their belt before they resolve to study abroad. Moreover, students can receive more and better credits with a study abroad background, than with what they can possibly obtain within schools of their own state. As long as students take the initiative to work hand in hand with his or her college academic advisers things should go smoothly.
Also, with studying abroad a student can have the opportunity to be able to find a volunteer work as job background, if not an actual job itself. A certain program known as the International Co-op Program allows students to work in Japan, Germany and Chile (among others) for a specified duration of time and get paid for it. This way their language study is broadened as their exposure is not only limited to one foreign country but also to another and extending services for an even worthwhile exposure as well. Nonetheless, some students are not ready enough to do it on their own and fear the idea of having to travel alone, thus preventing them to go through it. In whatever case, good opportunities await students who are studying abroad and that is guaranteed. The rewards are not limited to knowledge of a foreign language but to a whole lot more fulfilling and thrilling experiences that they can truly valued. If this still does not convince you, you can warm up your independence by enrolling directly in a foreign university in order to really incorporate yourself with the local students.
